Redondo Beach Things to Do in August This Month

For most of June and half of July, the center of gravity in Redondo Beach sat at Seaside Lagoon. Ride the Tide brought a 38-day public viewing experience to the lagoon from June 11 through July 19, 2026, during the FIFA World Cup 2026 tournament period. That closed ten days ago. What replaces it is not one event but two ongoing scenes, roughly three-quarters of a mile apart, that residents can now treat as a single weekend circuit rather than a choice.

If you have lived here long enough to have opinions about which pier lot fills up first, this is the month those opinions get tested. Here is how the next four weekends actually shape up.

The August 2026 anchors, at a glance

The scheduling matters because the Village crowd and the harbor crowd have historically been distinct, and that has been one of the practical charms of living here. In August, they are running side by side without colliding. You can do both in a weekend without either feeling like a compromise.

Thursdays and Saturdays still belong to the pier

The concert series is the load-bearing wall of Redondo's summer. The 2026 Summer Concerts on the Pier series returns to Fisherman's Wharf at Redondo Beach Pier, running every Thursday and Saturday from July 2 through August 29, presented by the Redondo Pier Association, with concerts starting at 6 p.m. and wrapping up at 8 p.m. — no tickets, no cover charge.

The August lineup leans harder on tribute acts than the July calendar did. Thursday, August 6 is Hot Lava, a B-52s tribute; Saturday, August 8 is Alarmaz playing reggae; Thursday, August 13 is Fake Matthews Band; Saturday, August 15 is the Tom Nolan Band; Thursday, August 20 is Supersonic-LA, an Oasis tribute; Saturday, August 22 is CC Stugino; and Thursday, August 27 is The Arcadies, an 80s tribute. If you have been meaning to test the theory that Oasis translates to a Santa Monica Bay sunset, August 20 is your night.

A few practical details that the visiting-relative version of this post will not tell you:

• There is no formal seating, so bring a blanket or a low beach chair if you want to settle in. Food and drinks are available from pier restaurants and vendors in the area.
• Pier Public Parking Lots (north and south) are located at 100 to 500 Fisherman's Wharf. The north lot entrance is on N. Harbor Drive and the south lot is at Pacific Avenue. Parking runs $2 per hour, available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
• Show up before 5:30 on a Saturday and you will still find a lot spot. Show up at 6:10 and you will be walking from Czuleger.

The Village side is a different rhythm

If the pier is loud and communal, Riviera Village in August is closer to the Sunday-morning version of the same neighborhood. The Farmers Market runs every Sunday, 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at 1801 S. Elena Ave. That is every Sunday this month: August 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30.

The one weekend to plan around is August 22 and 23. The 2026 Sidewalk Sale runs 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at 1799 S. Catalina Ave. The Village's 200-plus boutiques and restaurants spill their inventory onto the sidewalks for two days. It is the closest thing Riviera Village has to the Summer Festival that ran June 26 to 28, minus the carnival and the beer garden.

That same Saturday, August 22, the pier has CC Stugino on the concert stage at 6 p.m. A resident's move here is Village in the daytime, pier in the evening, with a short drive up PCH between them.

The one Friday worth blocking off

August's calendar is mostly Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The exception is Friday, August 28.

Miramar Park sits on the bluff south of the Riviera, which means you are watching a live pianist play through wireless headphones with the Santa Monica Bay behind him and no ambient noise from a neighboring stage. The format is the opposite of the pier concerts in every way that matters, which is exactly why it belongs in the same month. It rewards a different kind of attention.

If you are the kind of resident who tolerates the tribute-band summer for the sake of the sunset but has been quietly wishing for something quieter, this is the night.

Where dinner has actually changed

The waterfront and Riviera Village restaurant lineup is different from what it was twelve months ago. Three shifts are worth knowing about before you plan a concert night or a Sunday brunch.

Proudly Serving, Riviera Village. The Hermosa Beach pastrami-burger and natural-wine spot has opened a second location. Proudly Serving, an American eatery based in Hermosa Beach specializing in pastrami burgers, chili, and natural wines, is opening a new location in Redondo Beach at 1617 S. Pacific Coast Highway. The Redondo Beach location introduces a new burger called the Juicy James. It is walking distance from the Sunday Farmers Market and from the Sidewalk Sale footprint on Catalina.

Hot Dog on a Stick is coming back to the pier. For anyone who grew up walking down to the wharf for a lemonade after school, this one has weight. There previously was a Hot Dog on a Stick location, officially known as Craig's Hot Dog on a Stick, at the pier from 1962 until its closure in September 2024. The location, which was the only independently owned restaurant in the chain, closed due to the owner's retirement. Now the franchise is coming back to the pier, and will be located at the same address as before, 206 Fisherman's Wharf. The exact opening date is still to be determined, but a spokeswoman with FAT Brands, which owns Hot Dog on a Stick, confirmed that the new location will be corporate-owned, not independent. The reopening replaces a 62-year local institution with a corporate operation. Whether that reads as continuity or loss depends on how many summers you spent at the old counter.

Montauk on the waterfront. The upscale entry is the more recent shift in the pier area's identity. Led by Executive Chef Rob White, Montauk's menu offers a sophisticated alternative to the South Bay's more casual dining spots. The restaurant's sommelier-curated wine list and after-hours lounge add an intimate dimension to Redondo Beach's nightlife. Redondo Beach, long celebrated for its relaxed, surf-town charm, is experiencing a culinary renaissance. Reasonable people will disagree on whether the harbor needed a Ralph Lauren-inspired jazz lounge. What is not in dispute is that a concert-night dinner in Redondo now has a genuinely different top end than it did a year ago.

What this month is actually telling you

The August calendar reads like a scheduling accident. It is not. It is what a coastal downtown looks like when its two main gathering places, the pier and the Village, have finally figured out how to run in parallel without competing for the same audience on the same weekend. The Sunday market never overlaps with a concert. The Sidewalk Sale weekend is the one Saturday the concert lineup goes lighter. The silent piano Friday sits in the one gap the pier series leaves.

If you have lived here more than a couple of summers, you already know that August in Redondo runs cooler and less crowded than most of coastal LA. This year the programming has quietly caught up to that reality. There is more to do on a Tuesday than there used to be, and less pressure to pick between the two sides of town on a Saturday.

That is the argument for staying put through Labor Day. Everything you were going to drive somewhere else for this month is already on the map between Miramar Park and Fisherman's Wharf.
